Krystal KAMPRUBI

Early on, Krystal felt destined for a life devoted to art, unaware of the Muse she would have to honor. His artistic expression is first manifested by the publication of his first poems, at the age of 7. But quickly, it is to music and painting that she gives preference. For her anyway, "Art is a great whole, a dialogue of the absolute which comes in several alphabets".
However, her very varied interests push her first of all on the path of various studies, which will later enrich her pictorial inspirations. She entered the Faculty of Letters where she studied medieval literature and Celtic fantasy, and in 1999 presented a master's thesis on symbolism in two anonymous Arthurian novels. This literary experience is reflected in his paintings, which combine Celtic mythology and medieval aesthetics.
At the same time, she undertakes piano studies at the École Normale de Paris. Source of inspiration for her very first paintings, music retains an important place in her imaginary world: the Celtic harp, which she discovers a little later, becomes a recurring evocation in ever more personal works.
Preferring to develop her path intuitively, she lets her painting evolve according to her various passions. She finds inspiration very close to hers in the Pre-Raphaelites, in particular John William Waterhouse and Sir Blair Leigthon. His crush on Tolkien made him discover talented illustrators among contemporaries, such as Ted Nasmith, Alan Lee, John Howe, or Donato Giancola, who would influence his painting both thematically and technically (drawing, watercolor).
Her universe also meets that of Wojtek Siudmak, whose powerfully evocative symbolism she admires in his works. It was in 2001, following a meeting with him, that she resolutely turned to the graphic arts.
Since then, his painting has found its way into the marvelous, that of elves and fairies, that of fantasy, that which allows the impulses of the soul to explore the depths of being, with the dream as a guide.
Attentive to crushing her pigments, to making her varnishes and cooked oils, her workshop becomes an alchemical laboratory, in harmony with the universe of her works.
In his themes we find many female characters. His women may be frail in appearance, like the Pre-Raphaelite Muses, but they hold the power to tame wild life. Where the man thinks he must confront the dragon and kill it, the woman tames it, feeds it and turns it into a docile animal.
Combining the work of the painter and the illustrator, she divides her time between exhibitions (Paris, Lyon Epinal, ...), covers for various magazines and web-zines (Khimaira, Deep Magic, ...) and illustrated books .
